Dry hands and brittle cuticles in winter - Tips for looking after your skin

Winter brings with it freezing temperatures, dry air from heating and frequent hand washing - a real stress for our skin. Our sensitive hands and cuticles suffer particularly from these conditions. They become rough, cracked and often look unkempt. But this can be remedied with the right care!
Dry hands and brittle cuticles in winter - Tips for looking after your skin

Cold and dry air dehydrate the skin. At the same time, the sebaceous glands produce less oil during the cold season, which normally forms a protective barrier. Hands are particularly often affected as they are constantly exposed to environmental influences and are washed frequently - especially during the cold and flu season. This can cause the skin to become brittle, flake or even develop small cracks. We have put together 5 tips for supple hands and chapped cuticles:

1. Choose the right hand cream

Use a rich hand cream with moisturising and replenishing ingredients such as shea butter, glycerine or almond oil. Apply it several times a day, especially after washing your hands.

2. Gentle hand washing

Hot water and aggressive soaps also dry out the skin. Better: Use lukewarm water and a mild, pH-neutral soap. Then gently pat your hands dry instead of rubbing them vigorously.

3. Don't forget the cuticles

The cuticles also need attention. A nourishing nail oil with jojoba or argan oil keeps them supple and prevents chapped areas. It is best applied and massaged in at night before going to bed.

4. Wear gloves

Protect your hands from the cold and wind with warm gloves. Rubber gloves are useful when cleaning or washing up to minimise contact with irritating cleaning agents.

5. Weekly hand & nail care

A gentle hand scrub removes dead skin cells and makes the skin more receptive to care products. Then apply a thick layer of hand cream, put on cotton gloves and leave on overnight - for velvety soft hands in the morning!
