The run-up to Christmas brings a festive glamour to everyday life, and what could be better suited to the mood than nails that sparkle and shine? Now is the perfect time to be a little bolder and experiment with glitter, mother-of-pearl and other exciting effects on your nails. Even those who usually prefer more subtle looks can easily conjure up a touch of glamour in their own manicure with a few tricks. Here are the best tips and tricks for applying effect nail polishes to guarantee a successful look!
Shiny nails for the run-up to Christmas - how to create the perfect look with glitter and mother-of-pearl

1. The right base for long-lasting shine

Whether you opt for classic glitter or pearlescent shimmer effects, a good base is the first step to long-lasting shine. Be sure to use a base coat to protect the nails and create an even foundation for the nail polish. A smooth base also makes the effect nail polish look even more intense and prevents discolouration caused by pigment-rich products.

2. Less is more - thin layers for a better effect

Effect nail polishes with glitter or mother-of-pearl usually require several coats to achieve their full effect. However, a common mistake is to apply too thick a coat of varnish. Instead, it is better to apply several thin coats - this ensures an even finish and prevents long drying times. Allow a few minutes to dry between coats for a perfect look.

3. For a rich glitter finish: sponge technique

If you want particularly intense glitter on your nails, you can use the sponge technique. Simply apply some glitter nail polish to a small sponge and carefully dab it onto the nail. The sponge absorbs the transparent part of the polish and applies the glitter particularly densely to the nail - for maximum sparkle!

4. Emphasise mother-of-pearl effects correctly

Mother-of-pearl polishes give the nails a delicate shimmer and iridescent effects that are reminiscent of the colours of a seashell sky. To make this look particularly sophisticated, we recommend a very smooth and even base. Gently smoothing and polishing the nail surface ensures that the effect comes into its own.

5. Don't forget to seal!

You should apply a top coat at the end of every festive manicure. This prolongs the durability of the look and adds shine. With effect nail polishes, the top coat also ensures that glitter particles do not flake off so quickly and the surface remains smooth.

6. Remove the nail polish correctly

Glitter and effect nail polishes can be particularly beautiful, but also stubborn. To gently remove the polish from the nails, it helps to soak a cotton pad with nail polish remover, place it on the nail and leave it to work for a few minutes. This makes it easier to remove the effect polish and the nails remain protected.
